How to combine multiple PDF files into one document on Windows 11

On Windows 11, you can combine multiple PDF files into one file, but you can only perform this task with third-party tools, and in this guide, I’ll recommend and explain two of them.

If you usually scan documents with your multi-function printer to your computer, you would probably end up with one PDF file for each page of a document, and the problem is that Windows 11 (nor the PDF feature on Microsoft Edge) doesn’t provide a feature to combine multiple PDFs into a single document.

Regardless of the reason, if you must merge multiple PDF files into one document, you can use the “PDF Merger & Splitter” or “PDFsam” tool to complete this task since both are easy to use and freely available.

In this guide, I’ll outline the steps to combine multiple PDF files into a single document on Windows 11. However, these tools should also work on Windows 10.

Warning: Although these tools work as advertised, they are still third-party tools, and you should use them at your own risk.

Combine PDF files into one using PDF Merger & Splitter

As the name implies, the PDF Merger & Splitter tool offers the ability to merge and split PDF files with an easy interface.

The easiest way to install the tools is by running the winget install --id 9P4TCNS9H432 command in Command Prompt (admin) using the Windows Package Manager (winget) tool. You can also go through the extra steps by downloading it from the Microsoft Store.

Either option will install the app from the Microsoft Store.

To combine multiple PDFs into one PDF document on Windows 11, follow these steps:

  1. Open Start.

  2. Search for PDF Merger & Splitter and click the top result to open the app.

  3. Click the Merge PDF button.

  4. Click the Add PDFs button.

  5. Select the PDF files you want to combine.

  6. Click the Open button.

  7. (Optional) Select each file and click the Move Up or Move Down button to arrange them in the correct order.

Quick tip: You can also use the “Preview” button to understand each file.

  8. Click the Merge PDF button.

  9. Save the new PDF, combining all the other files, on your computer.

Once you complete the steps, the tool will have merged the different PDF files into one document.

Combine PDF files into one using PDFSam

PDFSam is a company that offers a free version of its suite of PDF tools that allow you to merge two or more PDFs into one document. The tool also offers options to split, extract, and rotate files.

The easiest way to install the tools is by running the winget install --id PDFsam.PDFsam command in Command Prompt (admin). You can also go through the extra steps by downloading it from the official website.

To merge multiple PDF documents on Windows 11 with PDFSam, follow these steps:

  1. Open Start.

  2. Search for PDFSam and click the top result to open the app.

  3. Click the Merge option under the “Merge tools” section.

  4. Click the Add button.

  5. (Optional) Select each file and click the Move Up or Move Down button to arrange them in the correct order.

  6. Confirm the name of the merged PDF file under the “Destination file” setting.

  7. Click the Run command.

After you complete the steps, the tool will create a new document combining all the PDF files you specified.

It’s important to note that you can also use the mighty Adobe Acrobat. However, in my experience, this application usually causes different types of issues in the operating system, and you must have the paid version to access the merge feature.

Also, if you have PDF documents with sensitive information, it is recommended that you do not use online services to merge these files, as this process would require you to share the contents of the file with third-party sites.

What tool are you using to combine multiple PDF files on Windows 11? Let me know in the comments.
